Policy

This policy is valid from 29 October 2011

Revised on 22 July, 2017

A matter of principle

My policy on this site has been to maintain it as free as possible from regime loyalists and mouthpieces. And I intend to keep it so. I don’t believe that defending a regime like Assad’s criminal regime deserves any space on my blog. And I don’t owe its fascist and sectarian supporters to propagate their rhetoric, lies, obfuscation and/pr their repulsive pretense to civility and superiority. I believe that their actions and words in preservation of this the Assads barbarian state may be considered, as by recent precedents established during the Rwanda trials, a grave threat to the peace of humanity.

I have tried, and will continue to try to ban any comment of sectarian, racist, anti-Semitic, or pure hateful nature, no matter who writes it. Likewise, any support of terrorist organizations will be immediately banned. And I will continue my work, which was never stopped (even during long absence from this blog),  to support the building of a plural, democratic, and secular Syria. A Syria that is free of the Assads mafia rule and from the residuals of their forty murderous years, which  have destroyed much of the country’s moral and social fabric, and destroyed many  many cities and neighborhoods not to mention more than 500,000 lives and millions of refugees. A Syria free authoritarianism, be it in the name of nationalism, or in the name of religion.

  1. Excellent set of policies OTW. If we all agree to abide by them, this website will be a role model for other blogs.

  2. I would like to suggest or request that participants be urged or prompted not to use language that refers to the hoped for killing of other people.
This would include references to torture and beheading, sodomizing, or “crushing” “destroying” , wiping out, eradicating others….
And I think this should be the norm whether the targeted group is Shia, Islamists, salafists, the opposition, or ALSO – the pro-regimers, Allawites, Christians, the people we don’t agree with, Bashar Assad or any of the leadership or his family. etc so on and so forth.

I think it is all offensive really and does a great disservice to our cause- if it sounds like the exercise of revolution or change – includes retribution and extra-legal punishments that involve killing, executing, torturing, and so on… regardless of the fact that many of the regime or security have engaged in these acts or allowed them to happen themselves.

  3. OTW. I think there should be a policy to moderate/edit Islamophobic comments as well as comments that are hateful to other religions ( in an obsene sense), that way the discussions can remain civilized. However there should a right for positive criticism of religions/ideologies/political positions, but attacks bordering on obscenity should not be tolerated. This, of course, was one of the greatest weaknesses of Dr. Landis’ blog.

  5. My Reply (through email to BBC). I promised you transparency.

    Hello Davina
First, i am honored. And sorry for my late reply. I work odd and long hours with only few hours a week available for the blog.

I regret that I will have to decline the interview. At this phase I am not ready for that, even anonymously. Off course I am proud of the value 7ee6an (pronounced heetan) or WALLS has been providing in its very young existence, but I have some personal concerns that prevent me at this stage from appearing in person even if anonymously.

Needless to say, I will be very happy to provide written answers that the anchor could read or for story background. I can also connect you with any willing members of the 7ee6an community (7ee6anis) after consulting with her/him individually and confidentially. If they approve the contact, I will be more than happy to make the connection.

    Sincerely
    OTW
