Just a Statistic- By Syrian Hamster

Yesterday, Bashar Al-Assad, or as I would call it  dog-poop athad to indicate my infinite contempt to this entity, was placed at the top of war criminals list that was handed to the International Criminal Court. While the dynamics on the ground in the region do not assure anyone that this “ass-hole”  will at any time soon face the court, it would be a great fantastic day when a judge would tell it to suck an egg, eat shit, or just simply go fuck itself and stop its blathering sophistry.

Two assholes together.
The dog and its evil master. Both have been responsible for hundreds of thousands of murders in the region and beyond.

Many Syrians dream of that day. Most, however, have much more than court on their mind, their plans for dog-poop include impaling and other forms of “reciprocation” they believe would be the minimum standard for punishing the asshole. I recall one hyper “assad is popular” menhebbakji who would use what I wrote above to masturbate its smart-ass (half truth here) brain, into a climatic tantrum of deceitful and ugly sophistry, mixed with and fake sectarian indignation about how hateful this rat is. But you know, I don’t give a rat’s ass about this kind of creatures any more. The Syrians waiting to see the asshole assad impaled re not psychopaths, nor are they merely hateful (they should be), they just recognize that with that son of a bitch being alive, there is no future, not for Syria and not for the region. But they also have at hundreds of thousands of far more serious reasons to want to see the asshole assad impaled. Here are some numbers as of the end of May 2014 that were published by the Democratic Republic Studies Center (DRSC).  Let us start by enumerating the duration of this sadist asshole crime against humanity

Duration

 38.5 Months
1,173 Days
28,152 Hour

Now the Numbers

Number of fully documented martyrs (I prefer the phrase assad victims at least from the legal point) 118,863 including 2,250 Palestinian, 12,130 child victims, 11,475 women, and 6,495 murdered under torture

Estimate number of martyrs 230,000 (80% civilians) including

  • 2,400 Palestinians
  • 15,000 child victims,
  • 14,000 women and
  • 18,500 murdered under torture (which include those whose emaciated photos were smuggled out)

Approximate number of wounded: More than 187,370
Approximate number of detainees: More than 258,2600 (including those few who were recently released)
Approximate number of missing: More than 99,4400
Number of refugees outside Syria : More than 3,566,740
Number of internally displaced refugees: More than 7,650,000

Total number of victims of violence (11,880,673) including murdered by weapons, wounded, detainees, disappeared, refugees and displaced.

Syrian families that have been affected amount up to 60% of the total population of Syria, the total number of family members affected is 15,627,402. These are the families of those murdered by weapons, wounded, detainees, disappeared, refugees and displaced.

The number of families who lost the main earner of the house hold is 125,000 families (nearly 868,000 people)

Some math

  • Every 4 minutes, the assad regime detains a citizen
  • Every 10 minutes, the assad regime wounds a citizen
  • Every 13 minutes, the assad regime disappears a citizen
  • Every 15 minutes, the assad regime murders a citizen
  • Every day, the assad regime murders 8 children
  • Every day, the assad regime expels as refugees 3,040 citizens and internally displaces 6,521 citizens.

ISIS is a major threat to the revolution, so is Al-Nusra, but the most significant enemy of humanity remains the asshole assad and its clan. Anytime someone tries to bring ISIS to equivocate for the asshole, my only answer would be similar to that of the imaginary Judge talking to the asshole assad “i,e. GFYS”.  ISIS is an historical issue that needs to be dealt with, but it can only be dealt with after we get rid of the criminal rulers, after we return their sectarian thugs in hizbulla to their rightful places in jail for their crimes, and after Iran is fully neutered as a source of evil and of terrorism in the region. If Obama does not understand this, then he is welcomed to meet my foul mouthed judge.

  3. There’s a certain ritual that each and every one of the world’s billion-plus Muslims, especially those living in Western countries, is expected to go through immediately following any incident of violence involving a Muslim perpetrator. It’s a ritual that is continuing now with the Sydney hostage crisis, in which a deranged self-styled sheikh named Man Haron Monis took several people hostage in a downtown café.

Here is what Muslims and Muslim organizations are expected to say: “As a Muslim, I condemn this attack and terrorism in any form.”

This expectation we place on Muslims, to be absolutely clear, is Islamophobic and bigoted.

The denunciation is a form of apology: an apology for Islam and for Muslims. The implication is that every Muslim is under suspicion of being sympathetic to terrorism unless he or she explicitly says otherwise. The implication is also that any crime committed by a Muslim is the responsibility of all Muslims simply by virtue of their shared religion. This sort of thinking — blaming an entire group for the actions of a few individuals, assuming the worst about a person just because of their identity — is the very definition of bigotry.

It is time for that ritual to end: non-Muslims in all countries, and today especially those in Australia, should finally take on the correct assumption that Muslims hate terrorism just as much as they do, and cease expecting Muslims to prove their innocence just because of their faith.

Russia’s citizens are going to face an unpleasant combination of a contracting economy (caused by falling oil prices and higher interest rates) and high inflation (because the collapse in the ruble will make imported goods more expensive), one thing is certain: It will be a long, cold winter.

  5. Lebanon: the rise of Christian nationalism –
    Interview with Maximilian Felsch

As a result of the Arab uprisings and especially the Syrian crisis, Lebanon is experiencing a radicalization of its religious communities. This radicalization is not only evident in the Muslim community, where militant Islamism and Salafism are on the rise and Sunni-Shia conflicts are becoming more and more violent; the Christian community and especially the Maronites are also showing forms of radicalization, asserts Maximilian Felsch, who conceptualizes this trend as ‘Christian nationalism’. Olivier Moos spoke with Dr Felsch in Beirut about this issue.

Religioscope – How do you define Christian nationalism? Is it a mélange of Phoenicianism and political Maronitism?

Maximilian Felsch – Christian nationalism in the Lebanese context can be defined as an isolationist political ideology and force based on particular values and ideas, which include the idea of Lebanon being essentially a Christian nation and the belief that Christians have a historical right to dominate the country’s political affairs. This implies the notion of Lebanon as a conglomerate of multiple and unequal confessional communities and not a society of free and equal citizens. This has, of course, significant implications for the understanding of legitimate political rule. The politics of Christian nationalism aims at maintaining a Christian-dominated Lebanese state, a strong confessional identity among Christian Lebanese and a highly autonomous Christian community.

That said, Christian nationalism must not be confused with Phoenicianism. Thinkers and intellectuals like Michel Chiha (1891-1954) have utilized the myth of a Phoenician heritage after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire to legitimize an independent Lebanese state based on a unified and organic Lebanese nation in which confessional identity – it was hoped – would become politically irrelevant. Phoenicians were neither Christian nor Muslim and therefore served both people’s mission very well. In 1943 leaders of Christian Maronites and Sunni Muslims made the National Pact, which contained basic norms of an independent and liberal Lebanese state. This pact was basically an attempt at nation building. The Christian nationalist agenda today, on the other hand, aims at quite the opposite goal, since it demands the segregation of the Lebanese nation along religious lines.

As for Maronitism, it shares more of the values of Christian nationalism, but there are significant differences. Maronitism is rather related to those Maronites of the early 20th century who opposed the State of Greater Lebanon, created in 1920 under the French mandate, and supported a small Lebanon under French protection in the mountains, because the Muslim population is much smaller in that area. This group regained support during the Lebanon crisis of 1958 and the civil war of 1975-1990.
Today’s Christian nationalism no longer questions the borders of Lebanon, while another difference is that this phenomenon is not strictly related to Maronites. Whereas in the past non-Maronite Christians in Lebanon were mainly adherents of Syrian and Arab nationalisms and opposed the separatists’ agenda, contemporary Christian nationalists – although mainly led by Maronites – claim to serve all Christians’ interests.

  6. Ten scandals that rocked the Jewish world in 2014
From Jon Stewart and Gaza to Rabbi Freundel’s hidden video cameras – there was never a dull moment.

    1. “Peeping Rabbi” Barry Freundel and his hidden cameras in the National Capitol Mikveh

This scandal punched the Jewish world in its most sensitive spots and resonated internationally. Why? Because the alleged perpetrator was a high-profile nationally respected mainstream Orthodox rabbi, because his congregation included powerful Washington DC figures, and because the idea that any rabbi might (allegedly) use hidden cameras to spy on women in their most sacred place like the ritual bath and exploit the vulnerability of conversion candidates to Judaism is unfathomable.

    2. The embarrassing racism of LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling

The world cried foul after highly racist remarks attributed to Donald Sterling, the Jewish owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, to his girlfriend were recorded without his knowledge and published. Jewish groups were no exception. The tape captured Sterling telling his girlfriend, who is black and Mexican, not to be seen in public with black people or to post photographs of herself with black people on Instagram, and that black Jews in Israel “are just treated like dogs.” Nobody shed a tear when he was banned from the NBA for life – forcing him to sell the team – and fined $2.5 million by the league.

    3. Kissing Sheldon Adelson’s … ring

Billionaire political powerhouse Sheldon Adelson had a number of “chutzpah” moments over the year, but his most visible muscle-flexing was when he pressured New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a leading Republican presidential contender, to apologize for the use of the phrase “occupied territories.” Reacting to the news, comedian Jon Stewart asked: “How can anyone claim to be a leader if they’re bending over backwards to please an 80-year-old gambling mogul?”

Prime Minister Netanyahu might be able to answer that question.

    4. The Massachusetts rabbi’s indiscrete discretionary fund

Not only Orthodox U.S. Jews were let down by a trusted spiritual leader this year. The tight-knit Sharon, Massachusetts community was stunned when longtime Conservative Rabbi Barry Starr resigned in shame under the shadow of charges that he used synagogue funds to pay $480,000 in hush money to an extortionist who threatened to reveal his sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male.

    5. Sacre bleu! Fraud and corruption in the French rabbinate

As if French Jewry didn’t have enough to deal with with the rising tide of anti-Semitism, their leaders have been more of a burden than of assistance. After Chief Rabbi Gilles Bernheim was forced to resign in 2013 after confessing to plagiarism and to lying about his academic credentials, his replacement was caught on tape this spring ordering the family of a woman seeking a divorce to write a $120,000 check to a designated religious charity. Hopefully, the newest French chief rabbi, elected in June, will be able to stay out of trouble.

    6. Move over, Anthony Weiner. British Jewish lawmakers overshares on Twitter

You’d think the Weiner affair served as fair warning to legislators to avoid sending photos of their private parts to women they meet on social media. But, no – Jewish Tory MP Brooks Newmark, the Minister for Civil Society (!) resigned in disgrace after he was caught sending explicit photographs of himself to a male journalist using a fake Twitter account, posing as a hot blonde. Newmark sent the graphic photos after asking his fictional friend to “swear on a stack of Bibles” that she wouldn’t show the pictures to anyone else.

    7. Scarlett Johansson and Soda Stream relationship bubbles over

The relationship between the blonde, blue-eyed, yet Jewish mega-star Scarlett Johansson and the Israel-based fizzy drinks empire never seemed to go flat this year. The partnership was news from the moment her Superbowl ad was censored for mentioning competitors Coke and Pepsi by name – but really blew up after the human rights group Oxfam informed Johansson that being Soda Stream’s face made her “incompatible with her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador” because the company manufactured in the West Bank. When she resigned from Oxfam, she became a poster girl for pro-Israel advocates and a favorite target for the BDS movement.

    8. Joan Rivers’s Gaza rant and tragic death

Over the summer, when the rockets were flying and bombs were dropping and Israel faced a wave of celebrity criticism, Rivers was the Jewish state’s loudest defender, proclaiming: “Let me just tell you – if New Jersey were firing rockets into New York, we would wipe ‘em out … If we heard they were digging tunnels from New Jersey to New York, we would get rid of Jersey.” Who knew that less than two months later, the comedy legend would shockingly fall into a coma and pass away after suffering cardiac arrest during an out-patient throat operation. Whether or not one shares her politics, her loud, hilarious voice will be missed.

    9. Not funny: Jon Stewart lashes out at “fascistic” Jewish critics

This year’s highest-profile Jewish personality was undeniably Jon Stewart. From early on in the summer Gaza conflict, the comedian-turned-filmmaker had a major tit-for-tat going on with those defending Israeli policy regarding his scathing critical barbs during Operation Protective Edge. In November, while promoting his film “Rosewater,” he vented his anger over the attacks on him: “You would not believe the shit. You have guys on television saying I’m a Jew like the Jews in the Nazi camps who helped bring the other Jews to ovens. I have people that I lost in the Holocaust and I just … go fuck yourself. How dare you?”

    10. Shia LeBoeuf’s possible abandonment of the tribe

It was probably the LEAST shocking move the young Jewish actor made over the course of the year – LeBoeuf announcing he was going in a different direction religion-wise. He said that on the set of Brad Pitt’s film “Fury” he “became a Christian man, and not in a fucking bullshit way – in a very real way.” Many Jews expressed open relief at the idea of disassociating from the volatile performer and his unending string of bizarre and violent antics and scuffles with the law. On the plus side, he did star in a heck of a viral video that garnered more than 7 million views.

  9. Arab states have never been more in crisis than they are today, whether they have been destabilized by outside intervention, sectarian strife, religious extremism, or the demands of fed-up citizens. The governments’ ideologies, which once held out the promise of dignity and advancement, have become threadbare covers for corruption and repression; the spectre of their own dissolution is one of their main mobilizing tactics. One can only regret the staggering waste, chaos, and suffering this has entailed. But Arab writers are stitching the pieces back together again; what emerges may not be pretty, but it is already fascinating.

  10. I came across this piece that has been quoted on face-book, RECAP. Same savagery different puppets on another geographical area..

“During the Algerian civil war, when the Algerian government annulled the elections because the FIS Islamic party were about to win (with almost 80% of the vote) – they immediately outlawed the party (an action which was supported by the U.S. and European countries I might add) – many Algerians then resorted to fighting the government.

The rebels were popular and supported by the people, so the Algerian government used its intelligence agents to infiltrate the GIA rebel group, and support, encourage (or create) the most extreme elements it could find – and even perpetrated attacks on civilians.

Algerian asylum seekers in the UK (who were former soldiers) admitted they had been forced to wearing ‘Islamic clothing’ and attack villages and towns that were supporting the rebels ‘while looking like they were Islamic fighters’.

Needless to say, the Algerian public turned against the rebels, and started supporting the government again.”

The second factor is the indirect result of deteriorating economy, it is the poverty, this will become worse next year, with poverty, there is increase of religious ferver,
The third factor is that some oppositions will acquire advance technology, they will find ways to halt air bombardments

Furthermore, SNHR is approved as a certified source by a wide range of Arabic and international news agencies and many international human rights organizations.

The founder and head of SNHR is Mr. Fadel Abdulghani, the network’s team consists of 23 researchers and human rights activists.
SNHR relies in all of is reports and studies mainly on the investigations conducted by its members inside and outside Syria. These investigations are conducted through field-visits or interviews with survivors and eyewitnesses. All of the incidents listed in this report have been documented in extensive reports which were published on the network website in Arabic and English. In this report we selected the most prominent violations that were perpetrated in 2014.

The international humanitarian law and the customary international law in parallel with the international human rights law are all binding upon all the conflict parties.
We emphasize that all of the statistics and incidents included in this study reflect minimally the gravity and scale of the ongoing violations that have been perpetrated in Syria since 2011.

Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz : El-Sisi election was a blow to “Arab Spring”, which has flatly failed in all Arab countries.

He added: We believe that Bahrain is most suitable to us considering the amount of freedom and political stability.

And also, he added: Regretfully Islam has these days been hijacked by some extremist organizations such as IS, Al-Nusrah Front, Boko Haram and others. These groups have distorted the image of Islam in the West. The purpose for the channel is to present Islam as a moderate religion in line with the same vision of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

  22. Torture Advocate Alan Dershowitz Busted In Sex Slave Lawsuit

There have been few voices supporting law enforcement torture of suspect as loud as that of Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz. Known for popularizing the argumentative fallacy of the “ticking time bomb” scenario, Dershowitz argued that federal and local law enforcement should be given a blank check to torture suspects if they think it might “prevent another 9/11.”

It would be astonishing enough for a Harvard Law Professor to be named in a suit accusing him of participating in a child sex slave ring, but given his pro-torture background, Dershowitz’s naming in the case is even more significant.

The lawsuit was filed by four women. The suit is against the federal government itself, which they claim violated the rights of victims of sexual assault when the State made a plea deal back in 2008 with Jeffrey Epstein who was alleged to have sexually abuse minors as part of a child sex slave ring.

Epstein only ended up doing about a year in prison for his crimes. But the ladies who have brought this suit against the federal government are saying that Epstein was not alone. In addition to many other notables, Dershowitz found himself accused of having routinely had sexual relations with Epstein’s “sex slave” while she was under the age of 18, before she escaped her slavery to Epstein.

Dershowitz has denied the charges and threatened legal action for these victims of sexual abuse courageously coming forward. Dershowitz said these charges are “totally, unequivocally and completely false”.

The operatives who carried out this attack exhibit signs of professional training. They spoke unaccented French, and so certainly know that they are playing into the hands of Marine LePen and the Islamophobic French Right wing. They may have been French, but they appear to have been battle hardened. This horrific murder was not a pious protest against the defamation of a religious icon. It was an attempt to provoke European society into pogroms against French Muslims, at which point al-Qaeda recruitment would suddenly exhibit some successes instead of faltering in the face of lively Beur youth culture (French Arabs playfully call themselves by this anagram). Ironically, there are reports that one of the two policemen they killed was a Muslim.

This condemnation by Muslims contrasts strongly with the support given by most Jewish communal associations around the world to Israel’s massacre last summer of over 1,400 civilians, including over 500 children, in Gaza.”

  55. Majedkhaldoun, i came across this article, similar to what you wrote.

Misgovernment, not religion, has sunk the Middle East

Comparing ISIL and other Middle Eastern extremists to the Crusaders and Jim Crow supporters who killed for Christ is an easy analogy. It is also wrong and diversionary, because it conceals the share of responsibility that the United States and its allies bear for the region’s chaos.

There are three actors whose policies in the modern Middle East have brought the region to its wrecked condition today. The first, and oldest, is the centuries-old tradition of Western powers who have repeatedly invaded militarily and tried to shape it for the sake of their own interests, leaving savage and violent lands like Iraq and Afghanistan in their wake. The second, and most important, is the chronically autocratic, incompetent, violent and corrupt form of Arab governance that has denied citizens a role in shaping their societies or holding leaders accountable. Hundreds of millions of Arabs remain politically incapacitated before their security-based, mostly family-run governments that remain in power for decades at a time, thanks heavily to support by foreign powers. The third reason is the waste, destruction and mass political humiliation that defines many Arab countries due to their losing encounters with an Israeli state that is unconditionally supported in its actions by the U.S. The crowning example of this was the 100-0 vote in the U.S. Senate to support Israel during the war in Gaza last summer.

The combination of these three ailments that have disfigured much of the Arab world in modern history has led to hundreds of millions of disgruntled, vulnerable and fearful young Arab men and women who lack both the political means to change their societies for the better and the socioeconomic opportunities to achieve their full human potential.

The answer is very clear , except to the dumb and stupid, Iran with nuclear power is so strong , it will dominate the Middle East, US will not be able to wage war against Iran if Iran has nuclear power, for the risk of Iran May strike next door neighbor ,Israel, and the majority of Muslims will side with Iran , if Iran has nuclear weapons , Assad will become irrelevant ,
The election in US is getting close, Iran will procrastinate , they are good at it , the republican will say ( it is best to prevent Iran from getting the weapons NOW , than later when it is too late) , Democrats will not take the risk, it is their national security , Obama will be making serious mistake if he waits, Democrats will certainly lose the election, unless he shows strong stand,

US would prefer Syria independent, not divided, that is a guarantee that Erdogan will stay weak, dividing Syria will lead to small countries that may opt to unite with Turkey to survive, this will empower Erdogan.
Keeping Assad means HizB will stay strong, confronting Israel, and endangering its security in the future, so U S is not a friend of HizB ,and US consider HizB. a terrorist organization, and HizB is an arm to Iran,
US prefers that the status quo stays, and is looking for someone from inside the Assad regime, get rid of Assad and change the equation this can only happen if Iran increases it’s presence in Syria and the Alawis feel the danger of Iran

  59. Graeme Wood’s “What ISIS Really Wants,” published in the March 2015 edition of The Atlantic, has quickly become the most widely read article on the militant group. Indeed, it is becoming the most read article ever published by The Atlantic.

Popular as it is, Wood’s essay is deeply flawed and alarmingly tone-deaf – dangerously so. What is so objectionable about Wood’s essay is encapsulated in his statement: “The reality is that the Islamic State is Islamic. Very Islamic.” While Wood acknowledges that “nearly all” Muslims of the world reject ISIS, ultimately his thesis is that the atrocities committed by the group have a theological basis in Islam. In support of his thesis, Wood cites Princeton academic, Bernard Haykel, who not only agrees that ISIS is “very Islamic,” but even goes so far as to say that those Muslims who denounce ISIS as un-Islamic are either ignorant about Islam or are simply being politically expedient by deliberately whitewashing the legal and historical dimensions of their religion.

By characterizing ISIS as Islamic, Wood and Haykel in effect, if not intent, attribute cruel beheadings, wanton massacre, and all other manner of savagery to Islam. In their minds, such an attribution is neither factually incorrect nor particularly damaging to “nearly all” Muslims who reject ISIS. But are Wood and Haykel too naïve to understand that by making such attributions to Islam, they ipso facto implicate and foment suspicion about all those who subscribe to Islam?

Of course, their attributions are factually incorrect and conceptually confused as we will discuss below. But their mistakes are especially egregious given the current climate of anti-Muslim bigotry. In light of the recent hate crimes directed towards the American and European Muslim communities, Wood’s piece is tantamount to shouting “Fire!” in a crowded theatre and, therefore, deserves a thorough rebuttal, if nothing else.

Below are twenty-one points that not only critique Wood’s essay and ISIS’s ideology but also take stock of the larger discourse surrounding Muslims, the War on Terror, and the intersection of government policy and the study of Islam in Western academia.

Defence Minister Jason Kenney, speaking to reporters Friday in Calgary, said he has never heard Rashid’s name before and refused further comment. “We don’t comment on allegations or operations about our intelligence agencies,” Kenney said.

NDP foreign affairs critic Paul Dewar said the government’s refusal to outright deny the reports out of Turkey lends credence to them.

“They haven’t responded,” he said. “And in light of the fact that there’s been more than 24 hours for the government to establish the facts as to what happened, I can only conclude that there is some truth to this story.”

Dewar said if the reports are true, that would be devastating for Canada’s credibility, and, at the very least, reiterate the need to increase oversight over the spy agency’s activities.

“We have been engaged with someone who is not blocking people from travelling to Syria to join up with ISIL, they’re actually facilitating it,” he said.

I do not like KSA, I think they are corrupt kingdom, it is not a matter of I trust KSA, the question is how is this action will benefit the Syrian people? , what I read in what is going on now the the creation of new Alliance, this Alliance is what the US was afraid to see, it is Alliance between Turkey and KSA, along with this Alliance is the creation of common Arabic Force, these two things are very very important.
First I am sure you you noticed that Sisi of Egypt was ignored and was not told about the impending attack in Yemen, he now, is pushing to participate, he is volunteering to send troops , navy and Air Force to Yemen, does that tell you some thing?
Second in the next few months we will have a Common Arabic Force, this I have been pushing for it for long time, this force can be used in different places, you know what I mean.
Third Erdogan is very smart, do you think Erdogan would issue such great support to KSA free? No there is a price for this strong support, the price is Assad head, this Alliance will be used along with the Common Arabic force to support the rebels in Syria, this Alliance can not be stopped by USA, the price of Turkey support of KSA is KSA support to Turkey to get rid of Assad And confront USA with strong Alliance, meanwhile this Alliance will help Turkey economically, and will weaken Iran, and force it to change its policy, the Alliance has great benefit, it will be the beginning of greater Alliance that includes other countries, Alliance is power, the fruits of this power will be very delicious indeed

The despicable regime has been -for the past four years- collectively punishing Syrians, Palestinians at the Yarmouk camp, have been experiencing what their Palestinians brethren in occupied Palestine have been suffering for the past 67 years. Palestinians in Yarmouk are those who came to Syria after the Zionists ethnically cleansed 3/5 of Palestine. Assad+ISIS are in sync by erasing our past, and destroying our future. The present is hell on earth.

After 45 years of systematically destroying the people and robbing their country, some Syrians are still evaluating who is worse.. I truly wonder if they have an iota of sanity.

Like the wider Syrian conflict, Yarmouk has a human face; the faces of young Mohammad and young Jihad. I want to introduce you to them in the hope that you, too, will understand why I am firmly convinced that turning away is not an option — and why the international community must act in a concerted manner to respond to the many tragedies in Syria.

These tales of courage and human dignity are a lesson for us all.

The cosmetic disagreements over Iran caused a lot of noise among pundits, but never any meaningful rift between Obama and his close Israeli ally.

But now that Obama has bought Netanyahu’s silence on Iran, the Israeli leader needs another bogeyman to replace the supposed existential threat from Tehran that proved so useful to whip up the Israeli public and distract world attention from Israel’s oppression of Palestinians.

Netanyahu has declared, in effect, that BDS – the Palestinian-led movement of boycott, divestment and sanctions – is the new Iran.
